How to find the right wine tasting experience for two in Tuscany — private options, romantic settings and what makes a couples' tasting genuinely special
A wine tasting for couples in Tuscany, done well, is one of the most romantic experiences the country has to offer. The combination of great wine, extraordinary landscape, unhurried pace and shared discovery creates the kind of emotional memory that a dinner in a restaurant, however excellent, rarely achieves.
The key word is done well. Many "wine tastings" in Tuscany are designed for groups, move quickly and feel more like a museum visit than an intimate experience. Here is how to find the right one.
A couples' tasting requires different conditions from a group tasting:
Intimacy: the couple needs to feel that the experience is for them, not for 20 strangers. Either a fully private session, or a very small group (maximum 8–10) where the sommelier has time for each person.
Pace: no rushing. Each wine should have time to breathe, to be discussed, to be explored. A good sommelier will read the couple's engagement level and adjust accordingly.
Setting: the setting matters more for couples than for groups. A panoramic terrace at golden hour creates a different emotional context than a cellar tasting room.
Personalisation: the best experiences ask about preferences and adapt. You don't drink Amarone every day — tell the sommelier what you normally enjoy and let the session build from there.
Our Sunset Wine Tasting is the most popular experience for couples at Eramo. A private hilltop garden with panoramic views over the Val d'Orcia. Maximum 18 guests. AIS-certified sommelier. Chef-prepared food pairings. The timing — beginning as the light starts to shift and ending as the first stars appear — is intentional.
For complete privacy: contact us about an exclusive two-person session (available on request, subject to date availability).
For those who want the experience entirely for themselves: our Private Terrace option provides exclusive garden access, a personalised wine selection built around your preferences, food pairings from the kitchen and a dedicated sommelier for the evening. This is what we recommend for proposals, anniversaries and honeymoons.
For couples who want an interactive element: our Tiramisù & Vino Nobile experience pairs the original tiramisù recipe (made together) with a guided pairing across three Vino Nobile vintages. Playful, educational, delicious — and genuinely different.
For a longer, more hands-on afternoon: our Pasta Fresca & Vino class can be booked as a semi-private session. Making fresh pasta together (under the instruction of our chef), then sitting down to eat it with wine — is one of the most enjoyable shared activities Tuscany offers.
Book in advance: our most romantic experiences fill weeks ahead in peak season (June–September). For specific dates, contact us 3–4 weeks before.
Communicate preferences: when booking, mention any wine preferences, dietary needs or if this is a special occasion (anniversary, proposal, honeymoon). We will adapt accordingly.
Plan the evening: a wine experience that ends at 21:00 can be followed by dinner in Montepulciano. We're happy to suggest where — based on what you've just tasted.
Don't over-plan the day: the tasting will be the highlight. Keep the afternoon relaxed — a walk to San Biagio, a coffee at Caffè Poliziano, a stroll through the vineyards.
